How to Reset TI-84 Calculator
Is your TI-84 graphing calculator frozen, displaying errors, or behaving unexpectedly? A reset usually fixes the problem. This guide covers all three reset methods โ from the safe RAM reset to a full factory restore.
โ ๏ธ Warning: Resetting your calculator will delete data. A RAM reset is the safest option โ it clears temporary memory but keeps archived programs. A factory reset erases everything.
Method 1: RAM Reset (Recommended)
This is the safest reset. It clears RAM (temporary memory) but preserves archived programs, apps, and data. Use this first before trying more aggressive resets.
Open Memory Menu
Press 2ND then press the + key (labeled MEM above it).
Select Reset
In the Memory menu, press 7 (or scroll down to "Resetโฆ").
Select All RAM
Press 1 to select "All RAMโฆ"
Confirm Reset
Press 2 to confirm ("Reset"). The calculator will restart and display "RAM Cleared".
Method 2: Archive Reset
This resets the archive memory where programs, apps, and data are stored long-term. Use this if a corrupted archived file is causing issues.
Open Memory โ Reset
Press 2ND โ + โ 7 (same as above).
Select All Archive
Press 2 for "All Archiveโฆ"
Confirm
Press 2 to confirm. All archived programs and data will be deleted.
Method 3: Factory Reset (Nuclear Option)
This restores the calculator to its out-of-box state. All RAM, all archived data, all apps, all settings โ everything is erased. Only use this as a last resort.
Open Memory โ Reset
Press 2ND โ + โ 7
Select All Memory
Press 3 for "All Memoryโฆ"
Confirm
Press 2 to confirm. The calculator will fully reset and restart.
